The Del Norte Local Transportation Commission voted to allocate $492,240 in Regional Surface Transportation Program (RSTP) funds and $80,000 in Transportation Development Act (TDA) funds to complete the Williams Drive access improvement project.
County staff told the commission that the county received Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) dollars for parts of the Williams Drive project but had to submit three separate grant applications to assemble the whole project; two were funded and one was not. “The county received highway safety improvement program dollars this past year for part of the Williams Drive project,” a county representative said during the meeting. That funding gap prompted the local request.
The project limits run from U.S. Highway 101 to the new homeless center (described in the meeting as the Homeless Village), the end of the county‑maintained road within the incorporated area of Crescent City. County staff said the denied HSIP component included striping work and that the local funds would enable completion of the project across the necessary corridors.
The commission took the vote after a motion and second; there was no public comment. Roll call recorded unanimous approval (Policy Advisory member Ostrand; Commissioners Altman, Borges, Tinkler, Howard and Short; Chair Greenough).
Commission staff said the allocation will be used to complete design and construction elements not covered by the HSIP awards. No construction schedule or contractor information was provided at the meeting.
