Commissioner Sorensen recognized 149 city employees who are veterans and presented lapel pins to veterans in the audience and city staff members who also serve in the reserves. Commissioner Steve Glassman presented a proclamation recognizing the Broward Sheriff's Advisory Council’s four decades of support for first responders; Andy Mitchell, chairman of the council, described the group’s fundraising and programming, including a canine/mounted-police training facility and the council’s financial support for equipment and families of fallen first responders.
Commissioner Pamela Beasley Pittman presented a proclamation recognizing New Hope Missionary Baptist Church on its 100th anniversary. Pastor Ricky Scott told the commission the church is preparing to break ground on affordable housing for families and is active in feeding and community-support programs.
