Council accepts $17,481 from Skagit County for library materials; county signals end of future payments

The council on Nov. 3 approved an interlocal agreement with Skagit County under which the county will provide $17,481 to the Anacortes Public Library to help provide materials for nonresidents of the city.
Library staff (Mister Vogel) said the county has paid similar amounts for decades to offset nonresident fees at Burlington, Mount Vernon and Anacortes libraries. "This will be the last year that they're providing the funds," Vogel said, citing a county letter included in the council packet that noted the county's budget difficulties.
Councilmember Fantini moved to approve the agreement; Councilmember Young seconded. The council recorded affirmative votes and the motion carried.
Council staff said the funds are budgeted in the 2025 library budget and will be recorded as part of the library fund resources for the year. Members asked whether the county's cessation was permanent; staff said they would follow up with the county for clarification.
