During the persons‑to‑be‑heard portion of the Nov. 4 meeting, representatives of Alliance Rugby Club and Keller Youth Association addressed council about field use at Keller Sports Park.
Brad Delong, who said he can see Keller High School from his Buttercup Drive home, described Alliance Rugby Club’s 22‑year presence and asked council not to ban the club from renting city fields. Delong said the club has restored youth programs after a prior interruption and promoted potential economic impact from hosting tournaments.
Trent Spinks, speaking for Keller Youth Association (KYA), said KYA had committed to leasing and investing in field upkeep and reported seeing three large patches that needed repair after the rugby club played on the renovated fields. Spinks said rugby is, by nature, harder on turf and urged protecting fields used by younger players.
Parks staff discussed shared parking in the business park and said the Sports Park fields are part of a shared parking arrangement; council and staff discussed possible mitigations and the need for clear operating policies. The consent agenda later included an item approving updated Keller Sports Park operating policies.
Outcome: Public comment only; no council action on field assignments was taken at this meeting. Council encouraged staff to follow up with speakers.
