Resident tells commissioners Palm Beach County Library System kept her family afloat during COVID

Stephanie Doreena told the county commission that the Palm Beach County Library System was a formative resource for her family, crediting story times, classes and library staff with accelerating her son’s reading and providing social and creative opportunities for multiple generations.
“Little did I know that our first adventure out would also be the start of a new chapter for my family,” Doreena said, adding that the library’s virtual programs during COVID “kept it going for us” and that her son was reading by age 4. She also described how classes bolstered her mother’s wellness and led to improved health outcomes, and that the library’s programs benefited her husband, a police officer.
Doreena thanked the commission for prior support — including a recent bookmobile ribbon-cutting — and urged continued funding for the library’s mission.
