Lake County proclaims Veterans Day and approves Operation Greenlight to light courthouse green

The Lake County Board of Supervisors read and adopted a Veterans Day proclamation recognizing the service and sacrifice of local veterans and announced the county will join the nationwide Operation Greenlight effort to illuminate the Lake County Courthouse in Lakeport in green lighting from Nov. 4 through Nov. 11, 2025.
The proclamation text, read at the meeting and signed by Chair EJ Crandall, says in part: "By shining a green light, the County Of Lake and our residents will let veterans know that they are seen, appreciated, and supported." The proclamation also states Lake County is home to approximately 4,500 veterans, or roughly 7% of the county's population, and cites the statewide veteran population referenced in the reading.
Board members praised veterans for continuing public and community service after military duty. A vice chair said the county's veterans "come back and they also serve our communities" and noted veterans' involvement in community organizations.
A representative of We Serve Veterans of Lake County, identifying himself as vice president of that group and speaking also for the United Veterans Council (11 affiliate organizations), thanked the board: "I wanna thank you for this proclamation. It means a great deal to us." An online public commenter echoed appreciation for the proclamation and for family service members.
On the Operation Greenlight subitem, a board member moved to approve joining the campaign and requested that staff photograph the courthouse illumination and share it with the National Association of Counties. The motion was seconded and carried, recorded as 5-0 in favor.
