Weber County approves first reading to combine two planning commissions into a single commission for unincorporated areas

The Weber County Commission on Nov. 4 approved the first reading of an ordinance to dissolve separate planning advisory areas and combine the Ogden Valley and Western Weber planning commissions into a single planning commission for the county’s remaining unincorporated areas.
County planning staff said the consolidation is prompted by upcoming incorporations in Ogden Valley that will remove much of the existing unincorporated population there. Officials said maintaining two separate planning commissions for a greatly reduced unincorporated Ogden Valley would be inefficient and more costly.
Under the proposal, current Western Weber planning commissioners are eligible to apply to the consolidated county planning commission. Members of the Ogden Valley planning commission who would reside inside a newly incorporated city would not be eligible to serve on the county commission but would have the option to apply to the new city planning body.
County staff said the statute imposes a 15‑day effective date after adoption of an ordinance. Commissioners said they intend to complete the ordinance’s final reading and appointments in mid‑November and schedule appointments to take effect after the statute’s effective date.
