Mineral District resident urges board to ban further data center campuses

During public comment a resident told the board that existing and proposed data center campuses near Ridgemont Drive create an "imminent peril" and urged supervisors to consider a motion to end further data center campuses in Louisa County.
Bill Walling, a resident of the Mineral District, told the Louisa County Board of Supervisors on Nov. 3 that the proliferation of data center campuses is a growing threat to neighborhoods near Route 33 and Ridgemont Drive.
"I call this... very much like a sword of Damocles hanging over my head," Walling said, describing construction impacts from an Amazon data center and expressing concern about references to a third center being "withdrawn for now," which he said leaves residents anxious about future development. Walling said his neighborhood of 38 families is "nestled right up against" the construction and urged the board to "consider a motion to end the existence of further data center campuses in Louisa County."
Board members did not take action on the request during the meeting; the president of the board closed public comment after Walling and moved on to the consent agenda.
