Board adopts 2026 Thomas Jefferson Planning District Commission legislative priorities

Mister Blunt, representing the TJ PDC, summarized the packet and said the commission will continue its top three priorities: public education funding, budgets and funding (including opposition to unfunded mandates and state shifts of costs to localities), and land use and growth management. Blunt noted updated language to reflect changing federal-state funding dynamics and urged realistic state support for K-12 education costs.
Blunt also described supplemental position language under health and human services, including support for rural hospitals facing Medicaid funding losses and assistance for low-income working families with child care costs. Transportation language was strengthened to support additional state investment in infrastructure. After a short period for questions, the board moved, seconded and approved the resolution.
The board record shows no amendments to the packets priorities during the meeting; the board thanked the TJ PDC representative and wished the commission well in the 2026 General Assembly session.
