Adams County commissioners authorized county staff to execute a reimbursement agreement with the Indiana Department of Transportation for Bridge 93 and approved a series of highway-related purchases and solicitations at Tuesday’s meeting.
Nate, the county highway presenter, told the board the draft INDOT agreement would reimburse about 80% of the professional engineering costs already incurred on the Bridge 93 project: “The total agreement covers 80% of the overall contract we have done with engineering resources already.” Commissioners voted to authorize a commissioner to sign the agreement when it is ready via DocuSign.
The board also approved staff requests to solicit quotes for seven small-structure culvert installations planned for 2026. Nate said five of the culvert projects are budgeted and two were late additions that may require additional budget review once final quotes are in; he recommended soliciting quotes for all seven and selecting from returned bids. He described the county’s general rule of thumb that the highway department handles culverts roughly 36 inches in diameter and smaller, while larger sizes are typically bid out.
During the same highway segment, Brad and Paul presented the results of a single returned bid for a replacement dump bed. The only responsive bidder was W A Jones; the bid was accepted by motion. Commissioner Doug moved to accept the bid and Commissioner Stan seconded; the motion passed.
Nate provided brief status updates on other projects: Bridge 66 reopened to traffic last week after an approach was replaced, and Milestone is scheduled to perform partial deck patching on Bridge 73 (Salem Road between 200 North and 250 North), with a planned closure of 7–10 days beginning about Nov. 12 for cure time.
The board approved related permits brought forward by the highway office, including a NIPSCO permit to install a 1-inch plastic gas service on County Road 200 East and an Indiana Michigan Power permit to install new poles and associated facilities along Winchester Road up to 750 North.
The actions were routine approvals: commissioners cleared the INDOT authorization, the quote solicitation for culverts and the equipment bid award so staff can proceed with execution and procurement.
