Council approves Military 180 Crossing plan with roundabouts to serve Bennington high school site

The Omaha City Council unanimously approved Items 9–11 to permit the Military 180 Crossing project, which supports the Bennington Public Schools high school site northeast of 180th Street and Military Road.
Lana Bayless of DLR Group told the council the plan includes public streets along the east property line, new two-lane streets on the north side of the high school site, and coordination with the county on improvements to Military Road and 180th Street. Bayless said the scheme will include two roundabouts — one at Military/170th and another at the primary drive entrance — and three lanes along the high school frontage to accommodate turn lanes and congestion mitigation.
Council members asked about crash concerns at the intersection of Military and 180th; Bayless and staff said roundabouts are an effective safety improvement and that the county partnership led to the second roundabout being added. Council member Melton moved to approve the items; the motion passed on roll call 7-0.
