Council: Clearwater Golf Club lease extended in exchange for bridge repairs and higher revenue share

The City Council on Nov. 3 approved an amendment extending the lease with Clearwater Golf Club LLC (formerly Clearwater Country Club) through April 30, 2055 and described associated capital responsibilities.
Parks and Recreation Director Art Cayer said the club previously extended a 20‑year agreement in 2011 and then added 10 years in 2022 when the operator invested $1.2 million in capital improvements. The club now proposes to invest between $500,000 and $1,000,000 to repair or replace nine bridges on the course that have deteriorated after roughly 60 years of service and hurricane damage; three bridges have been closed recently because of storm impacts.
Under the proposed amendment, the club will increase its annual reimbursement to the city from 3% of gross revenue to 4% during the last decade of the extended contract. Councilmembers applauded the partnership and noted the course’s historic value and improved condition under the operator.
