Commission authorizes collaboration on Tampa Bay Coastal Master Plan

The City Commission voted Nov. 3 to authorize staff to collaborate with the Tampa Bay Regional Planning Council and National Wildlife Federation on the Tampa Bay Coastal Master Plan, a four‑year, grant‑funded initiative to produce regional flood‑risk prioritization and project lists.
Gil Martinez, senior planner, summarized the request and introduced National Wildlife Federation representatives. Amanda (Mandy) Moore described the scope: compiling technical flood data, community‑based listening sessions, prioritizing structural and nature‑based projects, and producing an interactive dashboard to assist municipalities in identifying funding and projects. Moore said the program focuses on sea‑level rise, tidal flooding, rainfall and storm surge and emphasized co‑benefits such as habitat protection and water‑quality gains.
The plan is funded initially by a National Fish and Wildlife Foundation grant and the city will participate as a collaborator; Martinez said staff will coordinate data and public engagement. Commissioners supported the collaboration and designated the city manager or designee as liaison for participation and coordination work.
