Council renews property/casualty and workers’ compensation policies; premiums rise modestly

The Kankakee City Council on Nov. 3 voted to renew two major municipal insurance programs with the Illinois Counties Risk Management Trust.
City manager Kubo reported that the property and casualty and law‑enforcement liability package will cost $952,241 for the 12‑month policy period beginning Dec. 1, 2025, an increase of 6.88% over the prior year. The workers’ compensation renewal is $1,279,356, a 7.1% increase, driven by increased payroll and higher medical costs in the market, Kubo said. She reported that the city was able to retain the same deductibles and coverage levels.
Both resolutions passed unanimous roll calls. The city’s finance staff will file the policy documents and continue working with the insurer on any administrivia required for the effective Dec. 1 policy dates.
