City issues Oct. proclamations recognizing Domestic Violence Awareness, Arts & Humanities and Imagine a Day Without Water

The Lawrence City Commission read and issued three proclamations on Oct. 14: recognizing October 2025 as Domestic Violence Awareness Month, National Arts and Humanities Month, and designating Oct. 16, 2025 as Imagine a Day Without Water.
Adrienne Nunez, director of communications at the Willow Domestic Violence Center, described the center’s 24/7 crisis hotline, emergency shelter, transitional housing and human‑trafficking services, invited the public to a fundraising event and urged community support for survivors. Dawson representatives from the Cultural Arts Commission and Chair Dale B. Smith briefly addressed the commission ahead of the arts proclamation to thank the city for the recognition and highlight October programming. Steven Craig, treatment division manager for Municipal Services & Operations, summarized the city’s water assets — including treatment plants, towers and pump stations — and accepted the water proclamation on behalf of staff, urging public awareness of water infrastructure and investment needs.
The proclamations are ceremonial recognitions intended to highlight local services, events and educational efforts; no regulatory or funding actions were associated with these items at the Oct. 14 meeting.
