Board affirms school support organizations, committee rosters and records nepotism declarations

The Hardeman County Board of Education approved the annual slate of school support organizations and confirmed committee rosters and delegate appointments, and a nepotism declaration required under Tennessee Public Chapter 301 and Board Policy 1.108 was read and recorded.

Dr. Smith presented the list of school support organizations to serve in schools this year, including parent-teacher organizations for Bolivar Elementary and Eagleton Elementary, support groups at middle and high schools, the VCHS quarterback club and a group listed in the packet as the "MHS Tiger Tiger Denim" (as transcribed). Mister Adkins moved to approve the organizations and Mister Swift seconded; the motion carried by voice vote.

The chair nominated committee compositions: an insurance committee (Miss Carter, Miss Aylor, Mister Ford and Mister Swift); a personnel and 2024 budget committee (chair, Mister Atkins, Mister Ross, Dr. Smith and Miss Higgs); a differential-pay liaison (Mister Ross with Miss Shaw and Mister Rutherford as colleagues); and a director-evaluation committee (Mister Davis, Mister Polk, Miss Aylor, with Dr. Smith participating). The board approved the committee appointments and also designated three delegates to the state convention based on enrollment: Mister Davis, Mister Polk and Mister Swift.

At the start of the meeting a board member read a nepotism declaration noting relatives employed by the Hardeman County Board of Education and stated that the member's vote would be made in accordance with Tennessee Public Chapter 301 and Board Policy 1.108; a roll-call affirmation followed with board members indicating "yes."
