City schedules Dec. 3 Parks & Recreation master-plan work session; staff warns of multi-million-dollar costs

City staff announced a Parks & Recreation master-plan work session for Dec. 3 at 6:00 p.m. in the Bravo Room. Consultants will present their recommendations, survey results and focus-group findings, and staff said the presentation will include estimated costs to help boards and council set priorities.
Staff warned council the estimated costs across proposed amenities could run into seven figures and would strain staff capacity and financing if pursued all at once. The presentation is intended to guide council, the Park Board and Rec Board, the steering/advisory group and other interested parties in identifying priorities and potential sequencing over a three- to five-year implementation window.
Staff said the Dec. 3 meeting is likely the first of one or more sessions required to refine priorities, develop design and engineering steps and evaluate ongoing staffing and maintenance implications; capital financing and program-operating costs will be part of subsequent budget discussions.
