Council hears that Troy Fire Department is down four positions; recruitment and paramedic training expected to bolster ranks

Councilmember Westfall asked for an update on staffing levels in the fire department. Assistant Chief Pemberton answered that the department has experienced attrition — resignations and retirements — and currently is down four positions.
Pemberton told council the department continues active recruitment and expects several employees who are currently in paramedic training to graduate at the end of the year; those graduates will be able to bolster paramedic ranks once they pass certification and complete acclimation. He added the department is constrained by contract limits on the number of EMTs it may hire and is therefore prioritizing increases to paramedic staffing.
No motion or formal staffing change was recorded during the Nov. 3 meeting. Councilmembers thanked staff and noted continued recruitment will be important into the next budget year.
