City staff reported Oct. 20 that City Commission approved the final phase of the Municipal Services & Operations (MSO) campus and central maintenance garage project, a major consolidation of solid-waste and maintenance operations.
Staff said the commission vote was 4-0 and enables the city to begin procurement of long-lead equipment and to prepare for early construction activities; staff estimated footing work and initial construction could begin in March of the following year. The project will enable the city to shift operations out of the floodway at 11th and Haskell and consolidate several facilities.
Staff also said the consolidation will produce properties that may be surplus to city needs and could be disposed of; staff mentioned the North Lawrence corridor study as a forum to examine disposition and reuse options for affected parcels.
What happened next: staff will proceed with procurement and preconstruction activities and return with schedule updates and KPI metrics at a future meeting.
