The board amended the FY26 general-purpose budget to increase the use of reserves to $3,874,898 to cover change orders and complete the Jack T. Farrah Early Childhood Learning Center project; the motion passed after standard discussion and was described as a formality following prior approval.
The Tullahoma City Schools Board of Education approved a budget amendment to increase the FY26 general-purpose budget reserves to $3,874,898 to cover construction change orders for the Jack T. Farrah Early Childhood Learning Center project.
Mr. Jurden told the board that in September the project budget was increased by $434,898 to cover necessary change orders and that the general-purpose budget previously allocated $3,440,000 in reserves to complete the project. "With the construction budget amendment, the staff is requesting to amend the fiscal year 26 general purpose budget by increasing the use of reserves to $3,874,898," Jurden said during his presentation.
Board member Gigi Robinson moved to amend the FY26 general purpose budget; Pat Welsh seconded. Board discussion noted that the vote formalized earlier approvals and that construction work had started on portions of the project, including work that began in the building’s old pod. The motion carried; one board member, Ms. Stidham, was recorded as opposed.
Dr. Stevens later announced that the renovated portion and the new early-learning center will hold a community open house on Monday, Nov. 3, from 5 to 7 p.m.
