The board approved three contracts with Academic Momentum to develop standards-aligned assessment items and professional development for Sunny Hill, Haywood Middle and Haywood High; two contracts are paid with state school-improvement funds while Eastside will require district funds.
The Haywood County School Board approved three contracts with Academic Momentum to develop large banks of standards‑aligned assessment items and to provide professional development for teachers.
Dr. Scott told the board the work includes creating 20‑plus high‑quality items per standard for ELA and math, plus depth‑of‑knowledge questions that mirror TCAP assessments. He described the materials as a bank teachers can use for warm‑ups, formative checks and common assessments, saying the product will “save our teachers time.”
The contracts total $13,000 each for Sunny Hill and Haywood Middle and $17,000 for Haywood High; the higher high‑school fee reflects additional effort required for secondary assessments. Administration said Sunny Hill and Haywood Middle/High contracts are funded through state school‑improvement sources (CFI/CSI funds) and will not use district general funds. Eastside — identified as not a CSI/CFI school — will require district funding for similar supports.
Board members asked about prior use of Academic Momentum; administrators said some neighboring systems have used the vendor and that staff previously used the company in other roles. The contracts include rollout plans and professional development for principals, PLC coaches and instructional staff.
The board approved the contracts by voice vote on a motion by Ms. Reed, seconded by Mr. Benchtore.
