Senior Resource Center seeks continued funding for urgent home repairs for older adults

Megan (Senior Resource Center) presented the group’s third AHAB application for repair assistance targeting older adults.
She said the program is a relatively simple pass‑through that helps pay specialist fees (plumbing, HVAC, electrical) and other contractors when a low‑income senior cannot afford an urgent repair. The center has focused new investments where repairs pose a health threat—lack of running water or failed toilets, in particular.
Megan said the organization has stretched prior awards and has not yet fully expended the current allocation; she also said some applicants do not complete applications or required follow‑through, which reduces fully executed project numbers. She said the program vets referrals from community partners and helps ensure contractors can be paid promptly so the work will be done.
When asked, Megan said the center would work with homeowners if a household vacated within a recapture period, noting the organization has not yet had to recoup funds for a move in the 12 months after a repair. The board took no formal action.
