Council OKs VanderWall planning contract contingent on budget amendment

The Monona City Council approved an agreement with VanderWall & Associates on Nov. 3 to provide comprehensive planning and corridor planning services, contingent on a related budget amendment that the council also approved during the meeting.
City staff asked the council to consider the contract and the required operating budget amendment together; the contract will proceed only if the budget amendment (New Business item 2A) is approved. Council suspended the rules to take the budget amendment out of order and approved both items so staff could begin work on the comprehensive plan this month.
The planning project will inform the city’s long‑range land use guidance and corridor design elements; staff said accelerating the consultant contract now will allow the planning schedule to align with other capital and corridor work already underway.
What’s next: Staff will execute the VanderWall contract upon final confirmation of budget funding, set a public engagement calendar and report milestones to the council.
