Anchorage planning commission backs 2026 capital improvement budget, urges community engagement on funding

The Planning and Zoning Commission recommended the Anchorage Assembly approve the proposed 2026 Capital Improvement Budget and the 2026–31 Capital Improvement Program during its Nov. 3 meeting.

Planning staff and a representative of the Office of Management and Budget presented the proposed CIP, saying about 92% of proposed projects align with at least one goal in the Anchorage 2040 land use plan and that the bond column for 2026 shows $48.9 million in proposed bond funding, roughly $30 million in federal funds and nearly $10 million from other sources. The staff presentation noted the state funding column was removed from the 2026 materials after state capital funding expected in previous years did not materialize.
