Board approves first readings of complaint and bullying policy updates

The Allegany County Board of Education voted unanimously Oct. 14 to pass on first reading three policy updates addressing complaint procedures and responses to public inquiries.
The board approved changes recommended by the policy committee to file JBA (bullying, harassment and intimidation); file GBN (staff complaints); and file KE (responding to inquiries and complaints from the general public). The committee—s recommended language clarifies that the district will be responsive to complaints and that a failure to correctly complete a complaint form will not be a sole reason to avoid resolving or responding to an allegation.
Mister Whelan presented the policies and said the same language was being added to all three documents to ensure consistent handling of complaints. The board then moved each file forward on first reading. The motion to approve file JBA was made and seconded; the motion to approve file GBN was made by Mrs. Lepley and seconded by Mrs. Widmyer; and the motion to approve file KE was made by Mister Green and seconded. Each motion passed unanimously.
The board did not take final adoption votes; these were recorded as first readings and will return for additional consideration per the district—s policy-adoption process.
