County IT seeks SSL and Cisco Smart Net renewals; staff previews Oct. 30 agenda items

At the Clinton County Board of Commissioners work session on Oct. 27, IT staff requested the renewal of a GoDaddy wildcard SSL certificate (covering anything.clintoncountypa.gov) at a quoted price of $999 and briefed commissioners on this year's Cisco Smart Net renewal.

IT staff said the SSL wildcard certificate covers all county server names under the clintoncountypa.gov domain and that the quoted renewal price is higher than a promotional price paid the previous year. For the Cisco Smart Net contract, staff said one piece of hardware is at end-of-support and the Smart Net price is lower this year as a result; the quoted figure provided in the session was $7,770.48. Staff outlined contingency options if uncovered hardware fails: (1) use configured spare hardware on-site, (2) operate with degraded capacity temporarily, or (3) purchase updated hardware and renew Smart Net on recommended equipment.

Separately, staff previewed items for the Oct. 30 commissioners' meeting including personnel actions, a 4D transfer, a Union County inmate housing agreement and a proclamation marking the 31st anniversary of National Family Literacy Day. No formal approvals were recorded for the IT items in the work session transcript.
