Clinton County proclaims Nov. 1 National Family Literacy Day; local DAR leader accepts proclamation

The Clinton County Board of Commissioners adopted Proclamation No. 16 of 2025 on Oct. 30, declaring Nov. 1, 2025, as National Family Literacy Day in Clinton County.
The proclamation notes National Family Literacy Day was established by the 103rd Congress in 1994 and highlights community activities that promote family reading, book drives and workshops. Diane Whittaker accepted the proclamation on behalf of the Daughters of the American Revolution and described the organization's literacy priorities. "One of my goals is to reach out to the communities, whether it's libraries, schools, organizations, to promote literacy in various forms," Whittaker said, urging residents to read to children, lend books and support GED classes.
Commissioners approved the proclamation by voice vote and presented Whittaker with the county's recognition.
