Greene County names election custodian, moves Jefferson polling place ahead of Nov. 4 election

Greene County commissioners and the county elections board on Oct. 15 approved a set of staffing and operational steps to prepare for the Nov. 4 municipal general election, including a polling-place relocation, appointment of the custodian of elections and approval of temporary contractors and rovers.
The elections office reported total eligible voters for this election are 21,617, with 11,861 registered Republican voters, 7,610 registered Democrats and 2,146 listed in other categories. Elections staff said 1,942 absentee/mail ballots had been sent as of Oct. 14.
The board approved moving Jefferson 4 precinct voting from 63 Pine Street in Clarksville to the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Department at 1483 Jefferson Road for this year because the previous site was not available. Elections staff said the fire department agreed to host the precinct temporarily; the motion to change the location passed with unanimous voice approval.
Commissioners approved naming Doug Murray, the county IT director, as the custodian of elections. The board also approved a list of election-day rovers to assist the custodian — Brad Hartman, Lauren Chambers, Alex Swinigan, Mike Adams and George Stahl — and authorized a canvassing board, all by voice vote.
The board approved two contractor arrangements to support office operations during the election period: allowing Beth Lechman from ES and S to be on-site for two days in October and on Nov. 3 at a rate of $2,050 per day, and authorizing Jessica Goughenauer to provide contractor support at $38 per hour for the 2025 general election. Both items were placed on the agenda and approved.
Elections staff announced public logic-and-accuracy testing is scheduled for Oct. 28 at 1 p.m. in the County Office Building. The office also noted deadlines: Oct. 20 is the last day to register or change voter status; Oct. 28 is the last day to apply for a mail or absentee ballot; and Nov. 4 is election day and the deadline to return mail or absentee ballots to the office by 8 p.m.
The election board recessed to the call of the chair after the items were approved. No public comment was recorded during the session.
