Chad Timm, who identified himself as the owner of Timmy's RVs, told the council he took over the previous longtime local business and "we took over for Deichmann's after they closed after 70 years...We're gonna focus mainly on service for the time and then sales down the road probably after the first of the year." Timm said he has retained some longtime staff and that operations are already largely in place.
Amber Batsland, the city planner, explained that code changes in November 2021 now require a conditional use permit for the property even though the prior business had been a nonconforming use; staff recommended approval with a condition that the business be operating within 180 days. The planning commission recommended approval 6'0'0to'''''00 without that condition.
Councilmembers discussed whether to require the 180-day condition as a general policy to avoid long-vacant sites — a stipulation that had been included on other recent permits — but noted that Timmy's RVs is already operating at the site. Given that operational status, the council approved the conditional use permit without further amendment.
