City staff presented two logo options and several color palettes during the Nov. 3 special called council meeting, asking the council to choose a primary mark and a day-to-day color scheme. Staff described the two marks as a narrower and a more-curved letterform (presented as Column A and Column B) and shared multiple color iterations, including split-color treatments of the logo symbol.
Council members discussed the marks at length, and several members reported informal polling of friends and staff. A majority of council members expressed a preference for Column B’s form. During color discussion council members tended to favor a three-color approach (a gold/yellow accent paired with a teal-to-blue primary) and asked staff to produce two final comparisons: one with the M symbol rendered as a single color and one with the M rendered in a split-color treatment. Several council members emphasized the need to simplify palettes for day-to-day use and the importance of differentiating Mauldin’s brand from neighboring cities.
Staff said they will return with the narrowed options for council review and suggested the set could be used flexibly (black-and-white, seasonal variants) once finalized.
