The Business Development Committee on Nov. 3 considered a zoning ordinance amendment, recommended by the planning commission, that would permit food trucks to operate at certain entertainment businesses. Staff said the planning commission vote was 5–1 in favor; during that commission’s discussion the lone dissenting commissioner raised concerns that food trucks could create an unfair competitive advantage over brick-and-mortar restaurants.
Council Member Deerhog moved to forward the ordinance to the full council for further consideration; the motion was seconded and carried by voice vote. Staff noted the planning commission had also suggested a separate ordinance to address food-truck courts, which would be considered separately.
The item will appear on a full-council agenda for first reading and additional public review.
