County to transfer 1976–1998 property tax microfiche to Idaho State Archives

The county will send microfiche property-tax records from 1976–1998 to the Idaho State Archives; county legal counsel advised the files are not required to be retained by the county beyond statutory retention periods and the archives will assume storage and management.
Chief Deputy Treasurer Jill Smith explained the county still holds microfiche property tax statements dating from 1976 to 1998 and that maintaining microfiche equipment is costly. Smith said county legal counsel and the Idaho State Archives agreed that the state archives can accept the files and provide appropriate long-term storage; Idaho law does not require the county to retain those records beyond the retention schedule unless the county designates them historical.
Commissioners asked for a return clause similar to the previously discussed records transfer; the board approved moving the microfiche to the Idaho State Archives and directed staff to proceed under the usual transfer agreements.
