Bannock County OKs cloud contract for jail inmate-tracking system

Bannock County commissioners voted Tuesday to sign a Guard 1 Master Services Agreement moving the jail's inmate-tracking system from local servers to a cloud-hosted service.
Adam McKinney, chief technical officer, told commissioners "this is the cloud contract" for the jail's Guard 1 system and said it has been reviewed by legal. McKinney said the system is used for "physical counting and accounting of the inmates in the jail" and that the cloud migration is budgeted by the jail.
McKinney said the cloud service is "slightly more expensive by about $1,100 a year," but added that moving off county equipment "would minimize and eliminate any chance of downtime." A commissioner moved to sign the agreement and the motion carried with all commissioners voting in the affirmative.
The County did not provide further details in the meeting about contract term length, exact annual cost or the vendor's service-level guarantees.
