The Kossuth County Board of Supervisors opened a public hearing Monday on vacating Road No. 43 between Section 45 of Portland Township and Section 30 of Buffalo Township and adopted a resolution to vacate the road.
County staff told the board that notice to affected property owners was sent in accordance with the Code of Iowa and published in the county’s official newspapers. Staff said the road is not passable as through traffic between 290th and 300th Streets; if vacated, landowners would have access to all their parcels in the area.
A representative from Docubert Communications told the board the company has fiber‑optic cable near the surveyed area and urged contractors to call locates before grading to prevent infrastructure damage. Secondary Roads staff said they plan to grade the flagged area with dozers and define section lines for landowners after the vacation, and that utility poles in the area sit on private property rather than in the county right‑of‑way.
Following the public hearing, the board closed the hearing and moved to adopt Resolution No. 11‑04‑25‑01 to vacate Road No. 43. The motion carried on a roll‑call vote.
County staff said they will email affected landowners and follow up with the secondary roads department on the post‑vacation grading schedule.
The action removes the county road designation for the segment described in the resolution; the record of the resolution adoption will be available in the county office.
