Forest Park has been selected to participate in the Georgia Initiative for Community Housing, city officials announced at the Oct. monthly awards meeting. Director Dozier, the city’s planning and community development director, said the city will receive an official invitation on Nov. 19 and that staff will send a mailer to residents explaining how to apply for building permits online.
The acceptance to the GIC cohort is intended to give the city access to technical assistance and resources to support local housing initiatives, Director Dozier said during the meeting. "The city of Forest Park has been selected to participate in the Georgia initiative for community housing program," she said.
Economic development director Dennis also confirmed Forest Park’s acceptance into the 2026 GIC cohort and said staff will coordinate outreach and permitting guidance for homeowners. Dennis noted staff are preparing a permitting pamphlet "to help homeowners to be able to apply for their building permits online and know when they need their building permits," and that residents should expect the mailer in the coming weeks.
City officials did not specify the scope of programs or funding that will accompany GIC participation at the meeting, nor did they provide an implementation schedule beyond the Nov. 19 invitation. Additional details were not specified.
