Bonner County approves Road & Bridge buys: plow/grader bits, two custom sanders and grader replacement ad

Bonner County commissioners on Nov. 4 approved several Road & Bridge equipment purchases and an advertisement to replace a leased motor grader. The items were presented by Jason Taub, Road & Bridge director.
Taub said state procurement rules allow purchases under certain dollar thresholds without formal competitive bidding but that Bonner County still seeks multiple quotes when possible. For the first item, Taub recommended purchasing plow and grader bits from EB Equipment Blades for $45,432 (funds from budget line 002‑7080) after staff compared a $55,265 rebuild option and a lower EB Equipment price.
For winter maintenance, Road & Bridge requested two custom‑built sanders from Steve Peck Fabrication LLC at $22,350 each (total $44,700). Taub told the board the shop builds to the county's heavier specification (3/16" mild steel); he said these units typically last two decades and provide better durability than thinner, commercial units. Commissioners said they appreciated the long‑term value and voted to approve the purchase from the county's capital heavy equipment line.
Finally, Taub requested approval to advertise for bids to replace a motor grader whose lease expires Jan. 15 and to use a buyback option; the board approved placing the advertisement.
All three measures passed by roll call. The purchases will be funded out of their stated budget lines and the grader replacement will proceed to formal bid advertisement under county procurement policy.
