Muhlenberg County school board approves school calendar committee membership

The Muhlenberg County Board of Education voted to approve the membership of the district’s school calendar committee during a short meeting called to order by the board chair.

The board chair said there was only one item on the agenda: to approve the school calendar committee. The central office administrator told the board that “KRS 158.07 requires each school board to annually approve membership of the school district school calendar committee,” and that the district had expanded membership in recent years to ensure representation from all school levels.

Staff read the proposed roster aloud. Committee members named by staff included Principal Hayes Browning; the central office administrator (name not specified in the transcript); Board member Miss Rager; parents Tiffany Bastet, Lori Cobb and Kristen Rice representing elementary, middle and high school families; teachers Kelby Noonan (elementary), Jonathan Wells (middle), Mark Oates (high school) and Renaissance Center teacher Ryan Groves; classified staff representatives Erica Duce, Emily O'Neil, Norma Kinkade and Savannah Wells; community members Josh Smith, Martha Horn and Megan Chaney; and school operations representatives Rachel Nelson (food service), Jarrett Moore (transportation) and April Smith.

The central office administrator recommended the board approve the membership as presented. Mr. Johar made the motion, Mr. Porter seconded, and the chair called for a voice vote. Members responded “Aye” and the chair recorded no opposition; the committee membership was approved.

Staff said the calendar committee will meet Thursday, Nov. 13, at 5 p.m. The central office administrator said the board will discuss calendar options at the November meeting and seek approval of a calendar at the December meeting so employees and community members have a calendar in place before the new year.

The meeting adjourned after a brief procedural motion.
