"Pretty much my day is just hanging out with the kids, meeting them when they first show up in the morning, you know, giving a little fist bump and a high 5, checking on them throughout the day, making sure they're feeling good, making sure everything's good and safe around the campus," Officer Matt Gronick said.
A school staff member at Del Rio Elementary School said the presence of a campus officer is a key part of daily safety. "Our students and faculty couldn't do their daily job if they weren't safe here on campus. 1 of the ways that we keep them safe is having an officer here every day, all day," the staff member said. The staff member added, "Officer Gronick is a welcome member of our family. He makes us safe. He makes us feel welcome."
