The county read and adopted a proclamation recognizing November as Eye Donation Month and honored donor families and medical teams. Candy Zavala of the San Antonio Eye Bank presented, and Girl Scout troop 1296 participated in the event.
The Cameron County Commissioners Court on Nov. 4 adopted a proclamation declaring November 2025 as Eye Donation Month.
"Our mission is to restore sight and provide hope through cornea donation and transplantation," said Candy Zavala, Rio Grande Valley Hospital Community Relations coordinator for the San Antonio Eye Bank, during a short presentation on the importance of corneal donation.
The proclamation honored donor families and the medical professionals who support transplantation and encouraged residents to learn about organ, tissue and eye donation and to discuss their decisions with family. The court invited a photograph after adopting the proclamation.
The presentation included recognition of local Girl Scouts from Troop 1296 who earned a "Donate Life" patch by learning and sharing information about donation in their community.
