City details fall programming; mobile stage trailer arrives and Day of the Dead plans proceed

Parks & Recreation staff reviewed several upcoming and recent community events, including a neighborhood trick-or-treat event, a two-day Day of the Dead program with a core event on Nov. 2, a veterans salute and resource fair, and a tree-lighting event rescheduled to Dec. 4. Staff reported that community-center programming is growing (Hernandez community center hosted a Halloween event with nearly 100 participants) and that the pumpkin plunge swim event drew families.
For Day of the Dead, staff said a call for artists was circulated and that an initial set of artists (about eight) had indicated interest in exhibiting on Court Street; staff described plans to begin installation and decorating on Oct. 30 with a formal build on Oct. 31. Staff encouraged artists to submit images by the deadline (staff said the 28th as the target) and invited commission members to assist with installation.
Staff also said a 16-foot box trailer that converts to a 16-by-24-foot stage recently arrived, that staff completed a three-day training, and that add-on panels allow the stage footprint to expand to 32 feet. Deployment of the mobile stage is planned for next year, not this season, to allow for training and scheduling.
Commissioners highlighted family programming, vendor participation, and outreach for artists and thanked staff for printed seasonal brochures and flyers being distributed to residents.
