Commission to invite arts grant recipients to present after incomplete reports

Parks & Recreation staff told commissioners that semiannual performance reports were in the file for the city’s visual and performing arts grants but that many annual or final reports were missing. Staff said two recipients had exhausted their awards by the semiannual report; the reimbursement status and final accounting for other recipients were unclear.

Commissioners said they wanted recipients to appear before the commission to explain how funds were spent and what programming resulted. At the meeting, a motion to invite grant recipients to present at a future meeting passed after a second; the commission recorded ayes and asked staff to prioritize recipients that received the largest awards.

Staff committed to confirming final reimbursement status and to inviting recipients in groups to avoid an overly long meeting. Commissioners suggested beginning with recipients that received the most funding and asked staff to report back with a schedule and, where available, final financial documentation.
