Superintendent Heim said Lawton Public Schools will give staff and students Nov. 10–11 off after the district converted most virtual days to professional development days this year. "So we won't have anybody working school totally out, everybody off the tenth and eleventh," Heim said.
The change follows a statewide or federal calendar regulation update mentioned on the podcast; Heim said the district chose to implement the change this year rather than wait. Heim asked families to review the proposed 2026–27 calendar and submit input to help finalize dates.
Heim described teacher-workday accounting for the district during the segment: "there's a 180 workdays in there for teachers, and and we're gonna have a 166, 100 face to face, 2 parent teacher, 5 PD days plus at the beginning of the year, plus 4 or 5 throughout the year to get to that 180." The district characterized that breakdown as part of how it plans the school year and asked the public to comment on preferences such as a fall break week and Veterans Day placement.
Lynn Cordish, host of the Time With Time podcast, said community members should look over the posted calendar and submit feedback; Heim said the board will review public input while hiring and planning. Parents with questions were directed to the district website and the district email address provided on the program.
The district did not announce a formal vote or change to state law on the podcast; Heim framed this as a local administrative calendar decision informed by recent regulatory changes and stakeholder input. No specific dates for release of the final 2026–27 calendar were given.
