Staff member (unnamed) said the city’s drop-in sports and fall events are continuing and drawing strong participation. “It was a great time,” the staff member said of a recent family night that combined food trucks, resource booths, crafts and live music.
The staff member described several scheduled and recurring programs: an open badminton program started by community member Jesse Ramirez that meets Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings at 10 a.m. in the City Hall gym; a Santa Barbara Humane Society mobile veterinary clinic operating at Leroy Park (appointments are scheduled through the Humane Society website); and a free Viva Arte concert at City Hall this Saturday, with doors at about 6 p.m. and the performance around 7 p.m.
Movie night is scheduled for Nov. 14, with doors at 6 p.m. and the film Smoke Signals beginning at 6:30 p.m. The city will operate a snack bar with items priced under $5; attendees who stay through the film will receive a ticket entered in a raffle for a $10 snack-bar voucher, city staff said.
The staff member also reported a successful community family night that included Touch of Style handing out treats, multiple food trucks, resource booths, a large inflatable slide and a courtyard movie screening. The event featured family activities and children’s crafts, with volunteer help from Mackenzie Intermediate School and live guitar music by Victor Valencia.
All events were presented as community programs rather than formal policy items. Staff encouraged residents to check event pages on the city’s and organizers’ social-media accounts and the Santa Barbara Humane Society website for scheduling and appointment details.
