City staff told the Wayne City Council on Nov. 3 that construction at Gaudi Park is advancing and that adjacent public improvements will follow.
The city manager said contractors poured concrete over the weekend and will complete flat work in front of the stage and the ramps on each side of the stage this week, weather permitting. Staff also said the landscape irrigation system will be installed this week and winterized for the season. A replacement beam for part of the stage roof was delivered after a fabrication issue; installation will follow remaining concrete curing.
Staff said the only remaining visible work at the amphitheater will be applying cultured stone around the columns and completing a punch list. The city is also planning to repair a damaged concrete walkway by the banquet hall; one contractor's bid to replace the steps was estimated at $52,000 and city staff said they will seek cost-sharing discussions with the adjacent property owner.
Separately, the parking lot project adjacent to the library has had curbs poured and new sidewalks and light posts installed. Staff said the parking surface is expected to be poured by Veterans Day, but the lot cannot safely open for public use until debris and construction activity are removed; staff estimated the lot would be open by Dec. 1 if weather cooperates.
City officials said all timelines are weather dependent and reiterated that the improvements aim to make downtown safer and more convenient for library patrons and residents.
