Wayne council approves appointments, city vehicle and fire-equipment purchases; accepts settlement recommendation

The Wayne City Council on Nov. 3 approved a set of routine appointments and equipment purchases and later approved a settlement recommendation after a closed session.

The council voted to appoint Thomas Buckalew of Parkview Drive as an alternate member of the Board of Review to fill an unexpired term through December 2025. The council also appointed Chad Bridal (32236 West Michigan Avenue) to the Downtown Development Authority for a four-year term ending October 2029.

Council authorized the Department of Public Works to purchase three 2026 Ford F-250 pickup trucks from Gornow Ford of Woodhaven for a total of $179,595. According to staff, the purchase will be paid from water and sewer funds and was procured through a governmental contract that, per staff, offered state government pricing. Staff said the new trucks will replace a 2006 F-250 and two 2008 F-250s that have high hours and mileage; traded vehicles will be sent to auction and proceeds returned to the originating fund.

The council also approved the Fire Department's purchase of two powered stair chairs totaling $19,119 to be paid from an Assistance to Firefighters Grant.

Later in the meeting council convened in closed session under Michigan Compiled Laws MCL 15.2681 to review attorney-client communications and related work product from attorney Carlito H. Young of Rosati Schultz. After returning to open session the council moved and approved the settlement recommendation provided by that counsel; the motion carried on a roll-call vote.
