Superintendent: breakfast participation up; students praise career pathways and certificates

"High school kids just don't get up early enough to eat... When I got here, there was, like, 10% of our high school kids eating breakfast. Now it's about 65%." he said.
Students highlighted career and technical programs that they said open doors to work and certifications. One student said participation in the Great Plains nursing program produced certificates and led directly to a CNA position. Other students praised concurrent enrollment at the Learning Resource Center (LRC) and classes available through Cameron University and Oklahoma State University pathways that provide certificates or college credit.
Students and superintendent also discussed the student advisory group the district created to solicit student feedback on issues such as exemptions and scheduling; the superintendent said ideas from the advisory have produced changes the district adopted in recent years.
