Trustees approved the schematic design for a new cafeteria and athletic replacement project at Oliver Wendell Holmes High School, a 2022 bond project presented by Huckabee Architects.
The design includes a new dining hall with four serving lines, a full kitchen/scullery area retained for future flexibility, two gymnasiums, a weight room, training room, locker rooms, and a community resource room with drop-off access. Architects said the design borrows program elements from Sotomayor High School to maintain consistency in program capacity and described efforts to preserve an existing campus courtyard and minimize disruption.
Trustees and architects discussed capacity, equipment layout, player and spectator circulation, sight lines and site prominence along Loop 410; trustees asked that coaches and campus users continue to be engaged to finalize details such as flexible partitions in the weight room, bench placement and locker-room access. Staff noted the cafeteria design includes a scullery to preserve the option of non-disposable service.
The motion to approve schematic design passed; staff said the project will move into construction documents with continued stakeholder input and cost-review steps.
