Cranford committee introduces two ordinances, approves consent resolutions and reads two police appointment resolutions

The Township Committee of Cranford introduced two ordinances on first reading, approved a slate of consent resolutions and routine matters, and read resolutions appointing two police officers during its Sept. 16 meeting.
Mayor Terrence Curran read ordinance 2025-18, described as an amendment to township code chapters on NJDEP-mandated regulation of tree removal and tree replacement standards, and ordinance 2025-19, amending chapter 158 to add definitions and regulations for play vehicles. Both ordinances were approved on first reading and set for public hearing and final action at a later advertised meeting (the public hearing for ordinance 2025-18 was scheduled for Oct. 21, 2025 and both ordinances were to be published in the Sept. 25 edition of the Westfield Leader). The committee approved both measures by roll call; Commissioner Black, Commissioner Andrews, Commissioner Kathleen Miller Prunty, Deputy Mayor Gallo and Mayor Curran voted yes on the first-reading motions.
The committee also approved the minutes of the workshop meeting of Sept. 2, 2025 and the official meeting of Aug. 19, 2025, and moved the payment of bills. The chair moved the consent agenda (items numbered 3 through 15 on the agenda), which were adopted by roll call vote.
Separately, the township read into the record resolutions appointing two patrol officers: resolution 2025-278 appointing John Carlos Montero as a third-grade patrol officer effective 08/20/2025, and resolution 2025-279 appointing Jack Korzeneski as a first-grade patrol officer effective 09/03/2025. The committee presented the biographical background for each appointee during the meeting; the resolutions were read as certified copies of actions taken by the committee. The meeting record shows roll-call votes approving the agenda items listed above; the transcript does not record a separate roll-call tally tied to each specific appointment reading beyond their reading into the record.
