Mono County honors finance director Janet Dutcher at retirement proclamation

The Mono County Board of Supervisors Tuesday adopted a proclamation recognizing Janet Dutcher, the county’s finance director, upon her retirement. The proclamation credited Dutcher with leading the county through major financing efforts, including the Civic Center and jail projects, advancing accounting practices and pursuing technology modernization.

Board members offered personal remarks during the recognition. Supervisor Crites highlighted Dutcher’s help during bond work and Treasury Oversight Committee duties; other supervisors recalled her leadership during COVID, describing her as a ‘‘calm presence’’ for departments handling shifting funding rules. Staff noted Dutcher’s national recognitions and her recent PhD as evidence of long service and professional achievement.

Action: The board approved the proclamation by roll call (5‑0). Dutcher addressed the board and emphasized teamwork and curiosity as drivers of county fiscal resilience.

What’s next: The CAO announced Leslie Chapman as interim finance director; recruitment for a permanent finance director is underway with interviews expected in December.
