Temporary traffic changes tested; K–2 and bus depot plans point to longer‑term campus redesign

District staff reported results of a traffic study performed for the K–2 building and bus depot project and described a temporary circulation change that was tested beginning Oct. 28 to improve morning flow.
"Each day...was getting better and better," said Dr. Miller of the traffic test, reporting that initial difficulties eased after the first day and that backups were not long‑lasting. Staff said the temporary routing shifts bus and parent traffic away from the middle school side and toward the southern portion of campus, improving circulation during peak arrival windows.
The traffic engineer also outlined conceptual longer‑term options for the campus once the new K–2 building is built. Those concepts include realigning an entrance and running a circulation route along the middle‑school frontage, which would require revised campus access and is likely years from realization. Board members stressed the distinction between the tested temporary measure and any future campus redesign, and staff said they will monitor the temporary pattern over time before committing to additional changes.
Separately, district design work for the new K–2 building is in design‑development or early working‑drawing stages with a target of completed working drawings by January. The municipal approval process includes a zoning requirement to add sidewalks along the district perimeter; the municipality has agreed to install sidewalks in portions of the perimeter to reduce the district's paving obligations. Staff also noted additional geotechnical borings have been requested to clarify foundation conditions across the variable site geology.
Board members emphasized that short‑term measures are intended to reduce immediate congestion while long‑term campus modifications remain subject to future planning and funding.
